"Poppy" Oil Painting by Katherine StoneI am thrilled to announce that “Poppet” is en route to Atlanta, GA for this year’s Portrait Society of America Conference, as one of twenty-one finalists for the annual portrait competition. At the conference it will be eligible for a higher award on banquet night. If I get a prize, I will be drinking martinis until three in the morning at the after party. If I don’t get a prize, I will be drinking martinis until three in the morning at the after party. There will be no losers in Atlanta this year.

Also while at the conference, attendees will be able to see me participate in the Face Off challenge, a battle of the brushes between a dozen alla prima artists. I will have two and a half hours to complete an alla prima portrait from a live model and I will be competing against two of my favourite alla prima artists, Jeffrey Hein and Quang Ho.

On the first day of the conference my husband, David Gluck, and I will be giving a presentation on implementing social media to advance your art career. We’re no social media gurus, but we do live tucked away on an island in Canada and our long-distance relationship with the American art market hangs by the steel thread of Facebook, Instagram, and blogging.

Finally, if you still haven’t got enough of me, I will be painting another portrait demonstration on Saturday. But really, you might have had enough of me. I travel light and I might still be wearing the same shirt I wore on Thursday. This time I will be representing the Natural Pigments booth in the Vendor’s Room. If you are interested in seeing me use my favourite products, including the delightful Oleogel and the cinnamon bun frosting Lead White #2, come watch!
